Andrew, it was indeed the Cryptologic Spectrum, Winter 1979, volume 9, number 1.
There’s a big black redacted sidebar in the PDF to which Bruce linked; strangely, it’s available as a separate PDF, “The Legacy of Lambros Demetrios Callimahos.”
