Friday Squid Blogging: Sepioloidea lineolata

If Friday cat blogging involves cute pictures of cats, shouldn't Friday squid blogging include cute pictures of squid?

Overweight squids shouldn't wear stripes... it does nothing for the figure :-)

Uncle LumpyMarch 24, 2006 5:04 PM

That's a cute l'il fish.

Fffwwwoooaaaarrr!!

Bruce, people have asked you time and time again to mark stuff that's not safe for work! We live in an increasingly litigious society, you know, and some of us could lose our jobs ...

That is a fine cute squid, as my partner volunteered when I showed it to him.

B-ConMarch 24, 2006 9:41 PM

"Striped pyjama squid" is a fitting name.

Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings : (at a UK primary school) :

"Squid are better'n Octopussys 'cos they've got TEN big testacles (sic)."

Guess we have to give that kid a quick spelling lesson ;-)

I love it. Well done Bruce.

Best regards

And you all eat them? Shame.

MegMarch 25, 2006 1:09 PM

I'm not sure I understand why Friday squid blogging, but cute pictures of cephalopods are always appreciated.

JoeDoeMarch 25, 2006 5:09 PM

Ahhhh....so cute!!!!

I've been a fan of the squid since childhood...Friday Squid Blogging ROCKS! Please continue!

It's a great picture, but it would be even better if it included a recipe and a recommendation of a good wine to accompany the dish ...

Clive RobinsonMarch 27, 2006 7:18 AM

@Prohias

You most certainly do not eat the giant squid, as it uses amonia in it's swim bladder for controling it's elevation, the taste and smell compleatly permiate the entire creature (when it's dead, nobody has been near a live one to tell if it can control the smell or not ;)

@Bruce,

Bit of side knowledge as you mentioned "Cute cats" did you know that the brain of the giant octopus is about the same size as that of the cat?

Also even the smaller species exhibit some quite extrodinary skills that can only be described as intelegent (including guile).

anonymousMarch 27, 2006 12:32 PM

@Clive

But isn't this a cuttlefish? I've seen them (likely not this particular species) on sushi menus...

mud and flameMarch 27, 2006 3:45 PM

It is a cuttlefish. The common name of Striped Pyjama Squid is a misnomer. But I guess "Friday Decapod Blogging" doesn't have the same ring to it.
