Security and Human Behavior 2024

General Information

The seventeenth Workshop on Security and Human Behavior (SHB) brings together computer scientists, security engineers, psychologists, economists, sociologists, law professors, philosophers, and other scholars interested in understanding security and human behavior. The Workshop’s goal is to discuss, in an informal and interdisciplinary setting, issues where security, psychological, and behavioral sciences interact. The scope is broad: topics we covered in the past include the misperception of risk, security usability, deception, security and privacy decision making.

The Workshop does not have a formal paper submission process. Participation in the Workshop is by invitation. Everybody who attends also participates in the discussion. Invited scholars do not need to prepare a new manuscript for the Workshop; rather, they are encouraged to present their current (or their favorite, or their most representative) research, which—given the eclectic and engaging nature of the group—usually stimulates interesting discussions, and has frequently generated new joint research projects.

Organizers: Bruce Schneier, Ross Anderson, Alessandro Acquisti.

Dates

The conference will start on Tuesday, June 4 and run two days, finishing end of day on Wednesday, June 5. There will be a welcome reception on Monday, June 3.

Location

Harvard University
Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA

Registration

Registration is $240 per person. This is the cost for industry, academic, and student attendees. There are limited stipend funds available if attendance would otherwise be difficult.

If you have a grant and can afford it, please register at the supporter rate of $540. This will help defray the cost for people who need travel reimbursement. Please—it would help out a lot.

This is an invitational conference, so please don’t register unless you received an invitation. And if you did receive an invitation, please do register, even though we already know you’re coming.

Travel Grants for Students

The National Science Foundation will be funding travel grants to help undergraduate or graduate students from any US university to visit SHB 2024, regardless of their citizenship or visa status. Please contact Bruce Schneier to submit an application for a travel grant.
