Second Click Here to Kill Everybody Sale

For a limited time, I am selling signed copies of Click Here to Kill Everybody in hardcover for just $6, plus shipping.

I have 600 copies of the book available. When they’re gone, the sale is over and the price will revert to normal.

Order here.

Please be patient on delivery. It’s a lot of work to sign and mail hundreds of books. I try to do some each day, but sometimes I can’t. And the pandemic can cause mail slowdowns all over the world.

Dear Sirs,

I have already bought and enjoyed a lot the lecture of the book “Click Here to Kill Everybody”.

To have a second one with the personal signature of Mr. Schneier would be extraordinary.

I have tried to buy it but at the moment to pay has not been possible; we do not have a PayPal account and would like to avoid to create a PayPal account. Is there any other alternative for pay it?

It s indicated that a credit card can be used, but couldn’t find any other way than logging into a PayPal account.

Thank you and excuse me for the inconveniences.

Alexandre Samper

@bruce
I’ll pay full price with out the seg, but I’m not getting it yet.

Maybe a shade of gray might help, or more press the red button, your books are only for people that self think.

Sells or quality?

Steve Bennett April 28, 2021 4:30 AM

I don’t suppose you have an international shipping option other than “1st class” do you? The book might be reduced to $6, but the shipping is $24!

I wondered about getting a load of people together to do a single order and split the mailing costs (which would have been major hassle but might have been funny), but shipping costs seem to come out as $24 per book

Paul Demers April 28, 2021 4:55 AM

@Alexandre Samper look under the PayPal login and there is a choice to pay with credit card. I have just ordered mine without creating a PayPal account. Hope you read this before they are gone.

Any option for signed digital (PDF) book?
On the digital era I don’t care now about physical
books, they just take enormous space.
This will also solve the shipping problem / costs
for the international customers like me 🙂

Bruce Schneier April 28, 2021 8:04 AM

@lx:

“Is it possible to get the audio book with a personalized audio signature instead?”

The industry has not figured out any good way to sign audio files or Kindle versions. I can sign the physical packaging of the audio book.

Bruce Schneier April 28, 2021 8:05 AM

@lurker:

“Any option for signed digital (PDF) book?”

No.

Signed books are a legacy of the pre-Internet world.

Re Steve Bennett:

“I don’t suppose you have an international shipping option other than ‘1st class’ do you? The book might be reduced to $6, but the shipping is $24!”

I don’t — and I’ve tried. International shipping is either crazy expensive, or so unreliable that it ends up being more expensive in lost and remailed books.

lurker April 28, 2021 8:57 AM

@Bruce Schneier

Signed books are a legacy of the pre-Internet world.

What relevance does that mean? Before the cars people used horse carriages. So maybe we should also go back to that era, because that is “legacy”, good old days before industrialization begin and cars started killing people?

Just like cars and internet – it’s not a technology that is evil, it’s the people, people are evil who use it badly.

I don’t think that I must overload my home with books that degrade over time. Yes, I’d accept simple answer that no digital is available, but considering the tone that only physical book is worth something I’ll now turn to torrent. Helpful Russians provide there everything. Sorry, my $6 is now lost forever.

Thunderbird April 28, 2021 10:57 AM

There is no way to sign an ebook. “Signed book” implies “paper book.” The implication of a value judgement in that observation is yours, lurker.

It must be painful to post your musings on a blog and always have someone assume the worst possible interpretation. Bruce has more determination than me since he’s been doing this for … seems like at least since the mid 1990’s.

This time I scored a book!

@lurker:

… you’re rather cynical but generally correct. Autographs are an archaic affectation of a small minority of the public.

Selling & Buying stuff is very respectable and the backbone of any economy.
If a retailer is stuck with inventory that is not selling, the standard solution is to lower the price until it meets actual buyer-demand level for the specific good offered for sale.
Inexpensive marketing gimmmjcks may also help a slow sales environment.

lurker April 28, 2021 12:16 PM

I may be a little bit cynical but what a man can do if he wants a product, is willing to pay but author turns him down?

I’m also a music fan. In the past I’ve bought a lot of CD’s and DVD’s. Now most of them are worthless because of disc rotting. All those are original, no cheap pirated CD’s that were popular in Eastern Europe. They are now worthless and my money is gone. We experience the same thing everywhere – everything is now manufactured so cheaply that it hardly passes warranty period. Nobody design now a tool or product that lasts from father to son as it used to be. IBM model M keyboard is here a great example – I’m still using one. However a cheap USB keyboard broke just after week of usage. We all know how fast washing machines and new cars fail.

And books too. One real book turned yellow just in one year. Don’t know what chemicals they use in manufacturing and why it reacts so. I’m more than positive that no book I buy today last 100 years.

lurker April 28, 2021 1:26 PM

@ Thunderbird

PDF book can be very well signed – scan an autograph and paste it in. Moreover, each PDF can be serialized and personalized by including there buyer name and copy number.

This is how ArcaOS does it. Each copy they sell is personalized and includes buyer full name that is shown on boot.

@electronic copy
Come on, for income for the author yes, but its not worth the paper its written on with. Pay full price and get paper.

Weather April 28, 2021 1:52 PM

@bruce
Its $34 were I live, but its Us dollars to my country that is the killer.
I got lier and outliers but what does this new book have to say?

Andrew April 28, 2021 4:43 PM

Although this was a book that I enjoyed reading, it was one that annoyed my spouse as I was carrying it around everywhere. She was concerned that any random stranger reading the title would think of it being somewhere between anti-social to an aggressive threat.

Weather April 28, 2021 6:47 PM

@andrew Bruce
I’ll send you a email in August, hopefuls you can sign a copy then.
About the warrant curnary, most locals move house by basis.
I haven’t had a working computer in ten years, and the amount of crap on my smart phone.. I can defend it if needed.

Alexandre Samper April 29, 2021 8:04 AM

@Paul Demers, many thanks! I have tried again but there is no way to pay with credit card without creating a PayPal account.
Congratulations to Mr. Schneier for this initiative! It would be great having the book originally signed. I’m sure may people will order it.

Is there a way of supporting this blog? I have not seen any donation links…
Or should I just buy a copy with “donation do not send?”

Bruce Schneier April 29, 2021 10:50 AM

@Andrew:

“Although this was a book that I enjoyed reading, it was one that annoyed my spouse as I was carrying it around everywhere. She was concerned that any random stranger reading the title would think of it being somewhere between anti-social to an aggressive threat.”

I was particularly pleased to see it in airport bookstores.

Bruce Schneier April 29, 2021 10:51 AM

@jd:

“wish i could buy it but wordpress insists that i log in first.”

That doesn’t make sense. WordPress has nothing to do with the payment.

Bruce Schneier April 29, 2021 10:52 AM

@Nik:

“Is there a way of supporting this blog? I have not seen any donation links…
Or should I just buy a copy with ‘donation do not send?'”

I appreciate the thought, but since the beginning I have been able to maintain this blog without any monitization aspects. I’m good with that.

Readers: that’s my coin.

rufus_rufus April 29, 2021 2:17 PM

Great sale. Look forward to receiving my book.

As I did a bit of copying and pasting from Password Safe to enter my Paypal info, it seemed for a minute as if the security world was aligning. Thanks for the smile.

When times were old
And people were bold
And books were not particular
They’d stack them against the wall
And read them perpendicular.

Kinda Irritated August 19, 2021 12:22 PM

Kinda irritated that almost 4 months after I ordered my books, that 80% of my order mysteriously vanished.
