I am lost for words...

Nick PDecember 16, 2011 1:36 PM

I got stuck at this line:

"my first cameo appearance in a transvestite-themed rock video."

I was like, "Really, Bruce?" Interesting direction to go with your celebrity image. ;)

framecrashDecember 16, 2011 1:54 PM

I suppose this is part of your publisher's media blitz to this to promote "Liars and Outliers"...

Da5id KDecember 16, 2011 2:01 PM

That would be on the "Outliers" side of things, yes?

Steve SyfuhsDecember 16, 2011 2:01 PM

Now, when you say "first cameo"...

yeliaBDecember 16, 2011 2:18 PM

Not a bad song; all the old hardware and the ROT13 hex flashed on the screen were nice touches...

RandyDecember 16, 2011 2:18 PM

It was a *scientific* transvestite-themed rock video. Didn't you hear them say "Higgs Field Generator"?

Geeesh...this is high class!

And...now when you google Security *or* Transvestite, Bruce will be at the top of the list!

Randy

Aj ReznorDecember 16, 2011 2:18 PM

Is that Marcus at 2:02 ? Damn. Point, counterpoint!

JMoDecember 16, 2011 2:20 PM

I wanted to not like it... did you do this during your "experimental" days? LOL

RobDecember 16, 2011 2:24 PM

It may be repeating the obvious, but it's gotta be said - You rock, Bruce!

Clive RobinsonDecember 16, 2011 2:26 PM

Hmm how to a dress the idea, I guess people will say "what ever Rocks your boat", and such like. Mind you it is the ime of year to fill your stockings.

I could say I'm lost for words, but I won't the number of other awful puns I can thing of is quite large, but I'll let others have their chance :-)

DaveDecember 16, 2011 2:34 PM

um, what, i don't even know where to, huh?

JolyonDecember 16, 2011 2:38 PM

Bruce, great work! Fantastic to have a laugh and realise that we sometimes forget to stop and just do fun things (Hater's gonna hate regardless). Lots of recognisable faces, this was thought out...

AdamDecember 16, 2011 2:59 PM

What an outstanding collection of ancient personal computers. TRS-80, Commodore, Apple //c... nice.

lazloDecember 16, 2011 3:49 PM

Well I certainly hope it's not your *last* cameo

... in a transvestite themed rock video...

I mean really, it's like peanuts, you can't do just one.

Spaceman SpiffDecember 16, 2011 3:50 PM

That kind of reminds me when I did transvestite lap dance (complete with red feather boa) for our company's president on his 40th b'day! :-) There are still photos out there for anyone who wants to do some inappropriate "fund raising" - bear in mind that his wife was also present at the occasion! :-)

StukeDecember 16, 2011 4:35 PM

Does Karen know?

StaudenmaierDecember 16, 2011 4:36 PM

So, who ARE those people in the MacIntosh boxes? They all look like scientists.

JTDecember 16, 2011 7:47 PM

wow... not one person has made a comment about the most obvious piece of this video...
Anton is great :)

And here I thought people around here picked up on the slightest anything. haha

StukeDecember 16, 2011 11:30 PM

Okay, I can handle this. As long as Bruce doesn't start writing for "Frock."

StukeDecember 16, 2011 11:32 PM

Those little boxes with the heads in them really make me nervous. The next step is "Hollywood Squares." I'm terrified.

PaulDecember 16, 2011 11:52 PM

Apple IIc controlling a Higgs Field Generator! FTW!

PlughDecember 17, 2011 12:22 AM

It's a little more than accidental that so many notable folks were caught up in this -- there's gotta be something behind it all.

Al LowensteinDecember 17, 2011 12:28 AM

Ok, I was going to make a wise ass remark about the video being proof that computer security was way too lax if Schneier appeared in drag. However, when the video crashed Vista at about the 2:50 mark, I was impressed. By crash, I mean I didn't even get a BSOD (Blue screen of death) which originally was the black screen of death. Both of those leave a core dump showing. I got a black screen, nada, nothing. Apparently, my computer could not take a bald Schneier in drag. At least Vista got security right on something.

Mazel Tov, Bruce.

Ciao,
Al

StaudenmaierDecember 17, 2011 12:33 AM

Did anyone notice the big, stuffed, FreeBSD Daemon?

MsVyvDecember 17, 2011 6:09 AM

Aww. My worlds just collided! The MB guys are friends of mine, and another friend made the clip (what can I say, Sydney is a small place) - and I've been a mad Schneier fan for a decade or so.

Mr Schneier - well played, sir.

NowThat'sWhatICallMusic#4December 17, 2011 7:13 AM

Flashback to the 80's! Somewhere between Bruce and Jeff Minter a scissors could be activated. And I don't mean cutting the filmclip.

Ron GulaDecember 17, 2011 9:20 AM

I recognize a few of the folks (in the pop-up videos) including Marcus Ranum.

CalDecember 17, 2011 12:44 PM

MAN, that was nasty!! dear lord that screwed up my 10 minutes... dear lord! That was BUTT fugly!!!

mandmDecember 17, 2011 8:52 PM

I thought your first cameo was that M&M commercial you did.

LisaDecember 17, 2011 10:11 PM

Bruce, I hope this isn't a sign that you are having difficulties writing your next book.

I am still at a loss trying to find any connection between cross-dressing and security, except that most women feel less secure with cross-dressing men at some level. (It's like a wolf putting on sheep clothing.)

Rob MayfieldDecember 17, 2011 10:39 PM

Unique and cool - a member of the band lists the cast, both people and computers, here: http://rileyperry.blogspot.com/2011/11/...

The computer list seems incomplete, I'm sure I saw sol old-iron from Digital and IBM in there also ...

BF SkinnerDecember 18, 2011 3:39 PM

Nick P ""Really, Bruce?" Interesting direction to go with your celebrity image. ;)"

He's got the legs for it.

JamieDecember 18, 2011 5:07 PM

At the late night,
Double feature,
Encryption show.

Bruce, you rock.

ytDecember 19, 2011 2:30 AM

It's times like these I really regret reading this blog from a mobile device. The comments have convinced me even more that I need to see this video.

Josh O.December 19, 2011 1:30 PM

Cameo? Word Up!

jacobDecember 19, 2011 1:35 PM

@clive, nice christmas tie-in.
I was stunned at first.

Bruce, I just can't picture you in Rocky Horror Picture show...Did you used to sing/play along with movie? Your age is about right.
Bruce as Tim Curry???Remakes happen, hollywood ran out of original ideas years ago.

ZingusDecember 19, 2011 7:30 PM

lol, let's link appropriately the 1:46 mark, though :)

VlesFebruary 16, 2012 6:33 AM
